UTA enters the fashion business in earnest.
The agency has launched a new division, UTA Fashion, focused on expanding customer interest in the fashion and beauty industry. UTA Fashion is led by New York-based Ann Nelson.
She joined from CAA and worked as an agent in CAA fashion department for over a year. Prior to that, Nelson served as Vice President of Global Business Development at the UFC. She joined the Ultimate Fighting League, owned by Endeavor, after working for her IMG Fashion, owned by Endeavor, for 20 years. During that time she worked as a director of business development and as an agent representing fashion designers and models.
Her career in the fashion industry dates back to the mid-1980s when she began her career in Paris as a model manager for the Marilyn Agency Paris. She moved to Elite Model Management in her role as Business Development Manager.
“Anne is one of the most respected fashion executives with deeply established relationships across the industry. ,” UTA board members Blair Cohan and partner Darnell Strom said in a joint statement. “For UTA, having her on board is a natural next step in the work we’ve been doing in this area and we can’t wait to see what she achieves.”
There has been a lot of news from UTA recently. The formation of the fashion unit follows the acquisition of publishing agency Fletcher & Company, British talent and literary agency Curtis Brown Group, entertainment and marketing advisory firm Media Link, and his EQT, a leading global private equity firm. News of the new division comes directly on the heels of layoffs at UTA earlier this month. Cutbacks at the agency, led by Jeremy Zimmer, impacted his single-digit percentage of a total of 2,000 employees.
