Copenhagen Fashion Week, the biggest fashion event in Northern Europe held once every two years, opened on Tuesday, January 31st. ) Fashion Week. This year’s designers include well-established brands such as Saks Potts and Ganni, as well as up-and-coming designers such as Division and Iso Poetism.

The event featured 21 physical showcases, as well as 2 digital screening events and 7 digital premieres. A major focus of this year’s event was accessibility and audience engagement for younger audiences through virtual communication tools for those who were unable to physically attend the show.

At the 2022 S/S event, Copenhagen Fashion Week partnered with YouTube to reach 3.4 million views. CPFW decided to partner with TikTok this year because of its success and its engagement with a newer, younger audience. The partnership will also allow Copenhagen-based brands to “gain an international wholesale account.”

The CPFW website also details its partnership with TikTok. “This partnership provides a unique opportunity for Copenhagen Fashion Week to connect with an entirely new audience that TikTok has pioneered. includes.”

Copenhagen-based fashion brand and label (Di)vision also unveiled the alien Ozzy NFT in collaboration with Adidas and New Vision. Consumers can purchase Ozzy via cryptocurrency or by emailing brands directly. This is a very new innovation, rarely seen at other fashion shows, but it is sure to become more popular in the next few years.

Environmental sustainability was also at the forefront of this year’s event. In 2020, CPFW launched its first Sustainability Action Plan. But this year, for the first time, all participating brands must comply with 18 minimum sustainability standards. All brands were also required to be approved by the CPFW Committee and CPFW Sustainability Committee.

Under the new leadership of CEO Cecily Thorsmark, an advisory panel of industry experts to help implement better sustainability at future CPFW shows has announced that it will develop a sustainability strategy for Copenhagen Fashion Week. was established to help.

Besides the big difference in style, this is what sets CPFW apart from other fashion events such as New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

According to the CPFW Annual Sustainability Report for 2022, total carbon emissions for the summer edition were 46.9 tons (approximately 51.7 US tons), a staggeringly high figure for NYFW. NYFW typically emits 48,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually. NYFW is considered a bigger event, with 46.9 tonnes being just one of two events held in Copenhagen each year, but the figure reflects how each event prioritizes sustainability. It is a good representation of whether there is

The criteria for this year’s show were first announced in 2019 to allow brands time to comply with the expectations set by the CPFW Sustainability Committee. This means that all showcases at the AW23 event will be “free of single-use plastic packaging, ensure fair wages and working conditions throughout our supply chain, and be at least 50% certified, recycled, upcycled or Deadstock material.”

In August 2022, the CPFW also banned fur to incorporate animal welfare into sustainability. This step further indicates that the fashion industry is getting closer to eliminating fur entirely from all shows around the world.

On the fashion side of the event, an impressive line-up of brands showcased an understated, minimalist Nordic style.Denim on denim, monochromatic sets, bright colors, knits and metallics were all on the runways and in Copenhagen’s streetwear fashion. It’s a popular trend we’ve seen.

Copenhagen-based brand Ganni’s focus has been to create a more sophisticated line for this AW23 season. There were many understated items, such as black washed denim, black ribbed knits, and black wool composition suits. But in this sea of black, there were occasional pops of color. One of his featured pieces is a multi-colored long-sleeve purple and green jumpsuit with ruffles (pleated fabric overlays) down the middle and puffed sleeves.

Other brands, such as Saks Potts, graced their runways in bold red, purple, and Chartreuse colors. Many pieces in the collection have additional ‘Scandi girl’ style features such as croc-embossed leather belts, jackets and button-down shirts.
