Earning the Southwest Companion Pass
To obtain a Southwest Companion Pass, you must be approved for one of Southwest’s three consumer credit cards and complete eligible activities. All three cards have the same bonus. Earn a Companion Pass and 30,000 bonus points when you spend $4,000 in the first three months of opening an account. Companion Pass valid until February 28, 2024.
The three consumer cards eligible for this promotion are:
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card: 7,500 Annual Bonus Points. Annual fee $149
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card: 6,000 Annual Bonus Points. Annual fee $99
- Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card: 3,000 Annual Bonus Points. Annual fee $69
If you don’t currently have a Southwest Rapid Rewards® credit card and haven’t received a new cardholder bonus in the last 24 months, you can use the consumer card. However, this does not apply to business cards and employee credit card products.
Southwest Companion Pass
As mentioned above, the Southwest Companion Pass allows you to bring one designated traveler with you on your flight. All they have to pay is taxes and fees that start at $5.60 each way. What’s more, this promotional pass is valid until the end of February 2024, allowing you and your lucky guests to enjoy these perks for a full year.
Generally, Southwest flyers earn a companion pass by earning 100 one-way qualifying flights (or 50 round-trip qualifying flights) or 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year.
Once you get your Pass, it’s valid for one calendar year (January to December) from the time you meet the requirements, plus the remainder of the calendar year you got your Pass.
So if you get a standard companion pass in June, you can use it for the rest of the year and the following year. The sooner you get your pass, the more benefits you can take advantage of.
