With carnival bands officially inaugurated in Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago and the soca season coming to an end, locals are already looking forward to the jump-up days in April. How are you getting ready for festivals and fanfare? For many people, a fitness class is the ideal way to add volume and ambiance in soca style and help them reach their road march goals.
Shani McGraham-Shirley is the owner and CEO of Yahsuh Fitbox, which offers dance fitness classes of all genres. For the Yahsuh Fit Fiyah series, the classes take an interesting spin and incorporate the use of alternating instructors. “These classes challenge people and push their limits. Each session is 90 minutes of non-stop dance fitness. Last year was the first launch of the Fit Fiyah brand. customers, but that number has tripled,” she said. Lifestyle.
With that success, she decided to specialize in a genre she dearly holds dear. Carnival is on the way, so she created the Fit Fiyah Soca series around carnival-themed classes.
“We have a new instructor every 15 minutes. Everyone has a 15 minute segment. Rotating instructors gives you a different energy, flavor and vibe. “Someone to push you and motivate you. Trust me, you’ll have the ball,” added McGraham-Shirley.
The real challenge is working with a team of fitness experts to see if you can survive the entire 90 minutes. If it is too difficult, we encourage participants to go at their own pace, take necessary breaks, and come back when they can.
“Classes will be held every Thursday starting March 9th, as well as April 6th, 16th, 23rd and 30th at Yahsuh FITBOX, Artificial Turf Field No. 2 of the Barbican Football Field at 13 East Kings House. Gates open at 5:30pm and classes start at 6:30pm,” she added.
Stephen Cornwall, one of the instructors in the Fit Fiyah Soca series lineup, shared some of the benefits of Soca Fitness. “Socacise is good aerobic exercise. It helps you stay active and fit. You learn new moves as well as old ones. Your body moves in ways you never thought possible.” It’s a fun way to lose weight and meet new interesting people who share similar interests.”
Cornwall is a co-owner of Vybance and a soca instructor, explaining that he typically teaches soca classes twice a month. But now it’s soca season, so the number increases to three. You can check out his classes at 22 Barbican Road.
Bruk Weh Dance Fitness classes at the same location feature soca at least once a month, along with other music genres. But owner and instructor Anthea Gardner plans to raise her stakes next month. She said, “She does four soca classes in March and four in April. I know there are people who really need it. “
If you prefer the convenience of learning online from the comfort of your own home, there are two classes you can attend. Abz Dance Fitness will launch its first soca class on March 1st, and Botanic Fitness will have his soca step aerobics class online on February 25th.
