At the North Suburban YMCA’s 2nd Annual Pet Blanket Making Event on February 19, local pet lovers donated needed animal supplies to create pet blankets for rescued animals . dog toy.
This special volunteer project caught the attention of the Chicago media, with CBS Chicago, NBC-5 and ABC-7 all covering the event.
Donations of pet supplies, coordinated by the North Suburban YMCA’s Social Responsibility Committee, included large bags of dog food, newspapers, chew toys and blankets, which were sent to Wright-Way Rescue, Orphans in March. of the Storm Animal Shelter, will be donated to Heartland Animal. shelter.
For many of the participants, the Pet Blanket event was a family affair.
“Grandma has a rescue dog and we love her very much and wanted to help other rescue dogs, so today we decided to come to our house.”
For other volunteers, making these pet blankets was a valuable way for children to learn the benefits of giving back to their communities.
“I am very happy to be a volunteer and will continue to volunteer even when I am old,” says 9-year-old Lia Soristo.
