    Make November a memorable one by bringing all your friends and family to the ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station this month. Whether you want to browse veteran art at the Old Navy Training Center, twist your head and discover green thumbs at the Art Inflection Mystery Premiere, check out new public art, or join the First Friday experience , Arts District Liberty Station welcomes everyone to create lasting memories.

    Uplifting Gesture Multimedia Exhibition

    Multimedia Art Installation by Leslie Pierce | UPLIFTING GESTURES November 1-30

    In November, visit UPLIFTING GESTURES, a special multimedia art installation by artist Leslie Pierce, located in Suite 104 of the Dick Laub NTC Command Center. As a picture of a participant in an UPLIFTING GESTURES outdoor public event.

    The exhibition is made possible by a joint grant awarded by the NTC Foundation and will run throughout November. The exhibit is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 6:00 pm, Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Saturday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

    First Friday in the Arts District | 4 November

    Wander and observe the various art exhibitions, workshops and everything that the ARTS DISTRICT has to offer on the first Friday of the month. You can view the full line-up for the event here. Here are some highlights:

    Mike Oolong

    Milk Oolong Studio hosts a 2-hour ‘Moon Jar Workshop’ from 4-6pm. Participants choose from blue, white, or clear glazes, and finished pieces are ready for pick-up in about two weeks. The workshop is $65, click here to sign up.

    Mandel Weiss Gallery

    The Mandelweiss Gallery presents its first exhibition, Anthropocene Portraiture Part I: Body, Energy, Space and Time. This exhibition expresses the fundamental aesthetics of dance and explores the inseparable and conflicting relationship between the human body and the gravity of the footprints on the environment. The exhibition questions what it means to be a practicing artist in this time of global existential crisis.

    Featured artists include Ellen Dieter, Sharla Dorfshan, Ajay Junius, Linda Literal, Kathleen Kane Murrell, Cathy Nida, Katie Lewis, and Perry Vasquez. It’s free to attend and open from 5pm to 8pm.

    Autumn Repertory Concert | November 4-6

    Dancers at the San Diego Dance Theater

    The San Diego Dance Theater presents “Up Close & Personal,” a world premiere collection, repertoire and photographic art installation. Director Terry Wilson and guest artist Bernard Brown add to the repertoire created by former artistic director Gene Isaacs and guest artists Lavina Ricci, Kamla Songfan and Odessa Uno, two worlds. Created the premiere dance.

    Attendees will also enjoy a photo installation by Doug McMinimy, one of San Diego’s leading dance photographers. This is Khamla Somphanh’s dance, deliberately transforming chance from a series of movements in space and time into a series of still photographs.

    The dance performance and photographic installation will be held at the Light Box Theater (2590 Truxtun Rd. Suite 205) at the ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. Tickets can be purchased online here.

    Fleet Week Military & Veteran Art Exhibition | November 4-13

    There is no better place to enjoy the works of art of those who have served our country than in San Diego’s former Naval Training Center. See local art created by active duty and veterans at the Veterans Art Exhibition hosted by Fleetweek San Diego in partnership with his ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore all artistic mediums at the Martha Pace Swift Gallery, November 4-13. The exhibition is open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

    ART IN FLEXION presents a “mystery” in lots. November 10th

    Art in Flexion performance in public

    Get lost in Mysterie, a mouthwatering cinematic journey presented by Art in Flexion at The LOT this November. Mysteries reimagine the world from a warped perspective through the eyes of a circus professional. The film will be the first big-screen production of Art in Flexion to hit theaters. The two-hour film premieres on Thursday, November 10th at 6pm on The LOT.

    Monthly Garden Club | November 11

    The San Diego Craft Collective invites the community to the Garden Club on the second Friday of each month. Founder Stephanie Dotson saw an opportunity to transform the underutilized land outside her studio into a living learning lab.

    Through joint grant support from the NTC Foundation, the new Edible & Pollinator Garden will serve to teach the community how gardening in small spaces can be enriching. Learn how to grow your own organic fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables, plus all the benefits of eating healthy, living outdoors and giving back green space to the planet. The entry fee is $10 and the military is free.

    RADY CHILDREN’S ICE LINK | NOVEMBER 17

    Lady's Children's Hospital Ice Rink

    The NTC Foundation welcomes Rady Children’s Hospital to celebrate the holiday season by reviving its outdoor ice skating rink from Thursday, November 17, 2023 to January 8, 2023. In its 26th year, it’s a fun, family-friendly way to spend time together, raising funds for the Peckham Cancer and Blood Disorders Center’s Post-Cancer Thrive Program.

    The ice rink is a hub of holiday joy and inspiration, open Monday through Sunday from 10am to 10pm, except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

    Birds in Motion | November 20

    Birds in Motion is the first two-day collaboration between San Diego Dance Theater and Mockingbird Improv. This innovative all-day improvisation event will consist of his two-hour improvisation workshop led by the San Diego Dance Theater and Mockingbird improvisation faculty. Actors and dancers are welcome to come and explore different interactions with improvisation!

    In this workshop, faculty guide students through improvisational games and structured musical scores. Following the workshop, Mockingbird and San Diego Dance Theater will conclude the evening with a collaborative performance with a professional company. Students will be able to see elements of the workshop on stage, and audiences will be able to experience the two art forms come to life!

    Workshops and performances will be held at the ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station’s Light Box Theater (2590 Truxtun Rd. Suite 205). Tickets are available for purchase at $25 for the workshop and $15 for the performance.

    LPA DESIGN STUDIO | OPENING THIS MONTH

    LPA Lobby

    Welcome to LPA Design Studios, a new addition to the ARTS DISTRICT. LPA Design Studios is an integrated design firm focused on a design process that emphasizes performance, collaboration and inclusion. Their work won the AIA-California 2021 Firm Award, the state’s highest honor for an architectural firm. LPA shares an innovative vision, changing lives through design. LPA officially opened in his new studio space at Barracks 3 on October 19th.
