Lynn University Fashion Showcase
Now in its 20th year, the 2023 Lynn Fashion Showcase did not disappoint as students from Lynn University worked together to create a highly professional and edgy show. Renowned for its “learning by doing” educational approach, Lynn University’s Faculty of Business and Management, Fashion and Retail Programs, and Faculty of Communication and Design collaborate in this stylish annual event. As the program states, the College offers students “a cutting-edge curriculum, creating synergies inspired by research in entrepreneurship, creativity, technology and innovation” while also creating strong business and It helps lay the foundation for communication. To say it’s quite the production is an understatement. The entire second floor of the library has been transformed into a world-class runway lined with reserved seats. I expected Anna Wintour, queen of the fashion industry, to drop by anytime in search of the next great designer, editor, stylist, communications director, photographer or merchandiser. And I can’t help but mention the entrance to the Christine E. Lynn Library. The exterior featured fashion NFTs, cutting-edge applications of non-fungible tokens, an abstract-looking butterfly symbolizing this year’s showcase theme, “The Evolution of Expression,” and a black-and-white color scheme chosen. The overall aesthetic was surprisingly smooth.
As the room filled with enthusiastic guests and the lights dimmed, showtime began with a warm welcome from Dr. RT Good, Dean and Professor of Commerce. “The Lynn Fashion Showcase is one of many ways that fashion and retail students at Lynn can tackle real-world challenges by taking up fashion retail themes and demonstrating their execution skills by producing live productions. We are proud of our students and what they can do, and the Lynn Fashion Showcase helps us show ourselves and others that we can get the job done,” said Dr. Goode. I was.
This year’s curated designer was E’Naiyah Frazier, a Lynn University graduate who studied at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Frazier has already made a name for itself in the fashion industry with its innovative and sustainable approach to denim design. Her collection, inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art of embracing flaws and imperfections, was a great start to the fashion show.
A total of nine different collections were presented by designers, boutique owners and Miami-Dade College fashion design students. Each collection was perfectly paired with music that encapsulated a particular vibe of the look. At times, both the audience and the models were ready to dance. It was also a testament to the production quality.
Big kudos to all the students and faculty who contributed to this impressive display of professionalism, innovation, collaboration and artistic expression. And just like in the real world, the team is already discussing next year’s Lynn Fashion Showcase.
