Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) — Kosher hot chicken, a Nashville classic with a twist. The team competed for first prize at this year’s Kosher Nashville Hot Chicken Festival.
Rabbi Saul Straussberg of Congregation Sherrith Israel said, “The team is having a really good time getting ready together, making people happy, and seeing the effects of the chicken 30 seconds later.
In a city with few kosher options, there is no shortage here.
“Overall, there aren’t many options, so if you can get your hands on kosher hot chicken, it’s huge,” Strasberg said.
Another Nashville tradition? live music. The event also hosted the Jewish Arts and Music Festival.
“This is a group of Jewish artist singer/songwriters and several performing Jewish inspired music, such as American/Jewish music, Jewish/American music, etc., to celebrate Jewish culture. It’s a band,” Strosberg said.
About 1,000 people from all walks of life gather.
“It is important for the Jewish community to have positive experiences, to unite us, to be strong in numbers, to be united,” Strosberg said. “It is important for the non-Jewish community to understand that we are here, to integrate, to assimilate as much as possible and to bring people together.”
Being together is a priority for Mr. Strosberg as anti-Semitism rises across the country.
“The idea is to keep conversations going, empower people, build friendships and relationships, and that’s what we can do.
And they’re doing it on a delicious Nashville tradition.
