“DOG” owners were perplexed when they discovered that the strangely behaving dog was actually a wild fox.
A woman from China is stunned to discover that her seemingly innocent 140-pound Japanese Spitz is actually a domesticated fox.
The pet owner, identified only as Mr. Wang, became suspicious when the animal began to refuse dog food and stop barking.
After buying a puppy from a Chinese pet store, she noticed the strange behavior months later.
The “puppy” also developed strangely thick fur and a long tail, much to Wang’s annoyance.
“At three months old, he had thicker fur. He had a pointy face and a longer tail than a normal dog.”
Before she discovered the truth about the “dog,” the confused owner said a local resident told her her pet was a fox.
Mr. Wang finally cleared his suspicions and took the animal to Sun Letian, an animal epidemic prevention expert at Taiyuan Zoo.
A local zoo official examined the “puppy” and confirmed that the animal was indeed a fox.
He said: “Based on size, it’s a domesticated fox.
“It carries the smell to their bodies, and the smell can get stronger as they get older.”
At the time, white-haired foxes were only 12 inches long, but were expected to grow even larger.
According to local media reports, Wang has handed over the fox to the zoo so that it can receive better treatment and more suitable living conditions.
The foxes were quarantined for a month before being placed in an enclosure.
This follows the wild story of a family who, after owning their beloved dog for two years, realize that it is actually an endangered species.
The pet “Tibetan Mastiff” eventually weighed over 250 pounds and turned out to be a black bear.
And TikToker was shocked after it turned out that her 2,000-pound “thoroughbred sausage dog” was something else altogether.
As the dogs began to grow, bemused owners began noticing that they were morphing into different breeds.
It developed a head resembling a Jack Russell Terrier and a body that began to differ from that of a sausage dog.
Since 2020, pet fraud has reportedly increased by over 400%.
