Hundreds of lawmakers and their staff were hit by a health record data breach this week in DC’s health insurance marketplace.
News promotion: Both the FBI and Capitol Police are investigating violations of DC Health Link, a marketplace established under the Affordable Care Act. The act may have affected hundreds of lawmakers and staff, reports NBC News.
What they say: Chairman Bryan Steil is aware of the breach and will work with the Chief Administrative Officer to “ensure that vendors take the necessary steps to protect data. [personally identifiable information] of affected members, staff and their families.” The Republican Committee on House Management tweeted.
detail: In a letter first reported by Punchbowl News, Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Szpindor said the scale and scope of the attack is not yet clear.

- “Chairman McCarthy and Democratic Leader Jeffreys have provided additional information on DC Healthlink about what data was obtained, who was affected, and what steps are being taken to protect victims of this breach. We have made a formal request,” the letter said.

- “We have launched a comprehensive investigation and are working with forensic investigators and law enforcement,” they said. “At the same time, we take steps to ensure the security and privacy of our users’ personal information.”
