Vivid original acrylic painting with title main street view Edmonds Artist Bear Carpenter has been selected to represent the 2023 Edmonds Arts Festival. This painting is an iconic Edmonds perspective, reflecting Edmonds’ expression from the spectacular view of the hilltop. In this scene, downtown Edmonds, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains are surrounded by a stunning sunset. “Even if the sky is gray, it’s a happy color that expresses a bright mood,” said Carpenter.
Growing up in Oceanside, California, the 1970s SoCal surf scene inspired Bear’s early watercolours of coastal environments. His work, which turned to acrylic in 2015, reflects his appreciation of cityscapes, historic buildings and ocean waves. Surf days are long gone from his daily life as the Pacific Northwest brings new creativity.
His style is largely self-taught, and his acrylics today are influenced by his years as a watercolourist. Carpenter was mentored by San Diego watercolor artist Dan his camp and honed his craft in the studio, allowing him to paint San Diego’s seaside towns, local landmarks, and California missions in natural light. . At the time, some of his watercolors depicting coastal scenes and missions were accepted into Ruth’s Meyer Gallery on his beach in Laguna, California.
Although he finds inspiration for his paintings in his hometown of Puget Sound, the artist’s work still has a surf vibe. Red vans often appear in bear paintings. This is a personal tribute to the old surfer and his 1968 white VW van that he first owned.
His original acrylic paintings of San Diego County’s local streets and famous beach spots became popular with locals and tourists alike. Bear has sold his work at Art on the Green, North Coastal Art Gallery, Carlsbad, CA, and Pier Plaza Art Affaire, Huntington Beach, CA. He has similar experiences through his participation in Edmonds Museum Summer His Market and Edmonds Art His Walk. His work can be seen at the Crow and Cole Gallery & Art Studio.
As the festival’s 2023 Featured Artist, Baer’s paintings will be on display and for sale at the Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation Gallery at the Francis Anderson Center. In addition, we will have a booth at the festival venue and sell her works.
