According to Szpindor, lawmakers did not appear to have been specifically targeted for breach. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) and Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.) have asked DC Health Link to provide more information, she added.
Senators and their staff were also affected by the breach, but no data other than their names and family names appeared to have been made public, The Associated Press reported.
The FBI told McCarthy and Jeffries that it discovered law enforcement officers could purchase sensitive personal information from DC Health Link on the dark web: numbers, and home addresses. “
“We have launched a comprehensive investigation and are working with forensic investigators and law enforcement,” DC Health Link said in an email. “At the same time, we take steps to ensure the security and privacy of our users’ personal information.”
An online crime forum broker claimed to have records on 170,000 DC Health Link customers and offered to sell the data, AP reports. Broker claims could not be verified.
