As the cool winter weather breaks, so does the schedule for Southlake Carroll football in 2023.
After an impressive 13-1 season and the graduation of several key players, including all-time leading rusher Owen Allen, the 2023 roster is full of new names and faces. However, this year’s schedule will be a mirror image of his 2022 season, with the team’s weekly matchups being the same, so it will be very familiar to the Dragon faithful.
The season officially kicks off on August 25 when the Dragons host El Paso Eastwood. The Dragons beat the Troopers 66-14 in El Paso in last year’s season opener. This year’s season opener will be played at home and the excitement will be higher than usual. The Dragons’ field will be officially renamed Bob His Ledbetter His Field in honor of Carroll’s Hall of Fame football coach. In his 17 seasons with Ledbetter at the helm, the Dragons won his 208 games, including three of his 16-0 state championship seasons (1988, 1992, 1993), a national record and Became a regular on his 72nd straight winning streak to record his season.
Two more non-district matches will take place on September 1st and 8th against Flower Mound Marcus and Cedar Hill respectively. Districts will start with him on September 14th against Keller Timber Creek, followed by him against Haltom, Keller and Keller Central on September 22nd, October 5th and October 13th. It’s a schedule.
At the end of the regular season, the Dragons will face Eaton on October 19, Byron Nelson on October 27 and Fossil Ridge on November 3, before postseason play begins.
