Manistee — Two businesses in downtown Manistee were burgled over the weekend.
Manistee City Police are investigating two incidents of break-in and break-in and one incident of malicious destruction of property.
Manistee City Police Chief Josh Glass confirmed broken windows at Surround at 423 River Street and Downtown Delights at 457 River Street.
Police were dispatched to the 400 block on River Street around 3:04 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release. During the investigation, city police learned that a second store had been broken into and a third store’s door had been damaged.
“It was our turn to get robbed last night. There were 4 of them. Our alarm system alerted us at 3am. Yes, we have lots of video footage. Now We are working with ADT to collect,” reads Surroundings’ Facebook post. page.
Surroundings reported that “bongs, papers and other things around the store” had been stolen. “We found some of our products they dropped on the street. They seem to be walking,” reads a comment from the business.
“The suspect stole multiple items and broke into the store,” the city police said in a statement.
Surroundings sells cigars, cigar accessories, glass pipes, candles, incense and unique gifts.
Downtown Delights is an ice cream shop opening in August 2021.
“I am incredibly upset that this has happened to Downtown Delights,” reads a post from owner Tracy Judkins on the Downtown Delights Facebook page. I am so grateful that (Manistee Police Department) put a board in my window and did their best to keep in touch with me while I was out of town. If anyone sees anything suspicious, please report back on River Street last night.”
Downtown Delights was scheduled to close on Sunday due to a pending building sale. However, according to a Facebook post, the company sold out of ice cream on Saturday, saying “today will be our last day as we’re almost out of stock.”
The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene on Sunday. Anyone with information about these incidents should contact Det. Sergeant Kirsten Goodspeed (231-398-3281).
In early January, break-ins and break-ins were reported at another downtown store.
James Beaudrie, co-owner of the Manistee Beverage Company, posted a video on social media after the Jan. 3 break-in, saying someone threw rocks through the windows of the 401 River Street business and stole Fireball Whiskey. rice field.
The total cost of product damage and loss was about $1,500, Beaudrie previously told News Advocate.
