Two art surges scheduled at Eastern New Mexico University this weekend have forced a change, but the third event to bring culture to the High Plains is All Systems Go, enchanted Tuesday. It was held at Mento Vineyards.
“Opera 101: A Night of Opera Scenes” has been postponed by the ENMU Music Department. Those who have already purchased tickets will be able to use them when the new dates are announced.
The New Mexico New Works Festival, which featured 10 short plays written by New Mexico playwrights across the University Theater Center campus, has been forced to cancel.
Luckily, members of the High Plains Art Collective, a group of artists and performers from Portales and Roosevelt, have so far fended off the disease and are hosting a five-day event at Enchantment Vineyards at 2102 E. Third St., Portales. I was. , appropriately, “Art on the Vine.”
Art on the Vine is scheduled for today and Thursday from 12pm to 6pm, Friday from 12pm to 8pm, and Saturday from 12pm to 6pm. There will also be an informal meet-and-greet with artists and performers on Saturday.
According to Portales artist and HPAC member WillowBree Luker, the free event showcases “all arts, all levels.” “We are all volunteers, but we are passionate about creating.
“Our purpose has an agenda,” Rooker said. “We get together and exhibit our work so the public can see a sample of the artists’ work and who is doing what in the area.”
If they find a particularly eye-catching piece, the art will be put up for sale and the buyer will deal directly with the individual artist.
“We expect to see a variety of art, from recycled art sculptures to paintings, spooky art, metal art, glass art,” Rooker said.
In addition to the art, there are plenty of live performances from 5pm on Fridays and 12:30pm on Saturdays.
Stephanie Stresemann Wilkinson, who describes herself as “composer, songwriter, audio gal, and music teacher,” coordinates the live entertainment portion of the event.
“Audiences can expect a variety of family-friendly acts on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon,” she said. Valdez’s signature ‘Cowboy Jazz’ continues on Saturday, starting with ‘Kid Music Moment’, designed especially for children ages 0-5.”
The rest of Saturday will include the “World Dance Company, the Hip Slingers, a few music artists who are poets, clowns and actresses.”
“We are a small community, but we have incredibly talented people,” says Streseman-Wilkinson. “We want the public to come and support these local performers. Supporting local artists shows a lot of pride in our community. You may even discover your new favorite musician!” .”
