Need more new movies to watch online? With plenty of time to watch Babylon (now Paramount Plus), there are plenty of new options featuring the best actors of a generation.
As you can see, at the top of the marquee is Tom Hanks from The Man Called Otto. Hanks plays a widower whose life isn’t going well until his new neighbor tries to save him from his own bad moods.
If I had to pick one favorite movie from this list, it would be sandwiched between two incredibly different movies. On the one hand, we have the sorrow triangle. A hilarious, “eat the rich” satire that rocks the wealthy until they burn out. Then there’s the stunningly delicate and wholesome Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, the cutest figure this side of the magical kingdom.
Elsewhere, HBO Max is hosting a new House Party, ending the Magic Mike trilogy. Here are the top 7 new movies to watch online this week.
Magic Mike’s Last Dance (Digital)
We’re not saying Mike Lane (Channing Tatum) is past his prime, but when Magic Mike’s Last Dance kicks in, he’s out of the stripper game. In fact, Mike lost everything thanks to his Covid-19 pandemic. Luckily, he happens to meet Maxandra Mendoza (Salma Hayek Pinault), a wealthy socialite with whom he dances and sleeps. The two travel to London for their final big dance, but their goals aren’t quite the same.
Critics gave points to performances from the leads, especially Tatum, who continued to deliver good times in his third outing as Mike Lane. , but the general consensus is that this trilogy ended on a more subdued note than expected.

A Man Called Otto (Digital)
Adapted from Fredrik Backman’s 2012 novel A Man Called Ove, Tom Hanks’ latest film feels like a movie that’s no longer made. Otto Anderson (Hanks) is six months into his life since his wife Sonya died, but before he can make things worse, his neighbors Marisol (Mariana Trevino) and Tommy (Manuel Marie) have a crush on him. Garcia Rulfo) stepped in. Of course, Otto doesn’t see them as saviors, but as nuisances that stand in his way. there is.
Critics say A Man Called Otto is, well, what you probably think it is. It’s an effective feel-good drama about how we deal with trauma, and it doesn’t reinvent the wheel. A Man Called Otto is backed not only by Hanks’ dependable talent, but also by Trevino’s terrific performance.

Marcel the Shell in shoes (Showtime)
A tiny seashell with googly eyes and tiny shoes, Marcel the Shell with Shoes was an internet micro-sensation voiced by Jenny Slate as she left Saturday Night Live. A riff born out of then-husband Dean Fleischer Camp, Marcel followed a slow path to the big screen, separating cute character ideas and spotlight moments in seven years (and a divorce).
In the film, Marcel and his grandmother Nana Connie (Isabella Rossellini) are found when they are moved into an Airbnb by a filmmaker named Dean (Fleischer Camp). Dean’s video of Marcel (as well as the original short) has gone viral online, and the world is trying to help Marcel and Connie reunite with their missing family members.
Hugely popular for its heartwarming story and beautiful stop-motion animation, Marcel The Shell With Shoes On Shoes is the most unlikely movie. It has also been nominated for the 2023 Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film.

Triangle of Sorrow (Hulu)
Ruben Ostlund’s 2022 Palme d’Or winner, The Triangle of Sorrows is a class war drama set on a luxury yacht, one place where the ultra-wealthy feel safe.
Primarily, the film follows a young couple, model Carl (Harris Dickinson) and influencer Yaya (Charlby Dean Creek), who have a manipulative relationship. And there’s no better way to test their bond than by putting them on a cruise where everything goes wrong. Instead, he said that his subordinates live to fulfill the ridiculous demands of rich customers.
Praised for layers of chaos piled on top of each other, Triangle of Sadness proves that chaos is the point. Mixing barbed social satire with lowbrow humor, Östlund’s has created a winner with a film that isn’t afraid to take itself too seriously.

House Party (HBO Max)
Several remakes have arrived, grabbing attention by piqued curiosity with big names and twists on the original. The 2023 House Party chose the former, naming some of the biggest names in basketball. So when friends Damon (Tosin Cole) and Kevin (Jacob Lattimore) need a big break to survive, they happen to use the house they work in (owned by LeBron James) as a destination for their anger. can.
Critics weren’t big fans of the house party, but those who supported the film praised it for some good jokes and a particularly perfect cameo. The time spent modernizing it for the social media age suggests it should have been spent on the script.

close (digital)
Lukas Dhont’s Close tracks a very personal and intimate connection as two Belgian 13-year-old boys (Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele) are judged too close. And while their parents are accepting and unjudgmental, their new classmates in high school are not.
Acclaimed as a tender and emotionally powerful exploration of moments when innocence is destroyed, Close is not the kind of film you should be ready to watch at any moment. I praised him for his strong performance in a role that he was not allowed to play. Close also won multiple awards from independent film festivals.

living room (digital)
An adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s Ikiru (based on Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich), Alive follows Bill Nighy’s Rodney Williams as he is diagnosed with terminal cancer. After that he was a senior member of the London County Council. Unwilling to tell his children what happened, Williams seeks to find value in his life outside of work by helping those unable to navigate the dense layers of bureaucracy.
Critics have praised Nye’s quiet performance for how much he accomplishes with this understated character. Living is a complex and nuanced late-life story that stands out for its refusal to turn a sad story into a feel-good ending.
