Boiling Springs, North Carolina — Issue 11/13 Virginia Tech softball received contributions from every part of the lineup as the Hawkeyes scored 15 runs in five innings Wednesday to beat the Gardner Webb-running Bulldogs, 15-3.
freshman Lindsey Grain (5-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Virginia Tech (17-4). As a right-hander, he pitched three innings and allowed three hits, allowing three runs, one earned run, one walk, and one strikeout. Sophomore Molly Jacobson It also impacted the Hokies’ circle, pitching two shutout innings, allowing one hit, and no bases on balls and two strikeouts.

how it happened
The Hokies quickly got on the board and started scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Ritter put Virginia Tech on the board with a leadoff home run off freshman Ali Stidham.
After the Running Bulldogs rallied to tie the ball game at 1, the Hokies came back to regain the lead in the third inning. The Virginia Tech offense exploded for five runs punctuated by Bailey’s two-run homer off the bat, giving the score in favor of the Hokies to 6-1.
Gardner-Webb cut Virginia Tech’s lead to 6-3 before the Hokies extended their advantage to 13-3 in the fourth inning. The Hokies hit three home runs in the inning and scored seven runs.
Hokies score two points on solo home runs from seniors Grace Chavez and senior Morgan Oraitis Fifth, they made the score 15-3 in favor of Virginia Tech. The score remained 15-3 for the rest of the game as Jacobson and the defense shut down the Gardner-Webb offense.
